It’s been done before but it’s compulsive viewing
“The history of television is littered with shows that are photocopies of shows and formats that become the “next big thing,” especially during the network era. How many multiple-timeline tearjerker shows were created in the wake of This Is Us becoming a hit? But it’s rare when we see a show that is a photocopy of a hit from two decades ago, as the newest NBC dramedy is.
GROSSE POINTE GARDEN SOCIETY: STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?”
THE KINDA PLOT
“how do we end the first episode not knowing whom the quartet is burying under the garden. Sure, we get candidates. But we just wonder how long that part of the story is going to be dragged out, much less the part where the four co-conspirators strain to keep this massive secret”.

What Shows Will It Remind You Of?
“What Shows Will It Remind You Of? Created by Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, Grosse Pointe Garden Society has more than a passing resemblance to shows like Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids”.
“So Grosse Pointe Garden Society moves to its new timeslot which, unfortunately, is never a good sign for the health of a show. Moving to the dead zone like this is almost certainly going to make this ripe for a cancellation which is a shame because the series has actually been pretty good so far”.
“The story does drag a little in places but the way the show swings between different characters, giving them a consistent amount of screentime and development, all whilst continuing to tease bits of the mystery, makes for a solid watch”.

MY TAKE
Quotes above from sites like thereviewgeek.com and decider.com, omit perhaps one thing. The actors are excellent and their characters somewhat unique and idiosyncratic. So what if there isn’t really a consistent plot-line and some of the screen-play is deja-vous. It’s entertaining, you can connect and empathise with the characters. So I found myself asking, do I want to see the next episode, do I want to know what is going to happen next? The answer to both questions is an emphatic “YES”, it’s so bad its good, if that makes any sense.
