Hamilton beats Leclerc in Ferrari Pirelli tyre test

Lewis Hamilton posted faster times than Charles Leclerc in today’s Pirelli tyre test. Lando Norris set the fastest time of 1:15.21, completing 159 laps. Hamilton was second with a time of 1:15.93 completing 87 laps. With Leclerc being 0.13 seconds slower than Hamilton while completing 86 laps. So maybe Peter Windsor was correct when he said Hamilton crashing last week was actually positive news.

Lewis Hamilton crash last week was positive news

According to former F1 team manager Peter Windsor Lewis Hamilton’s crash on his third day driving a Ferrari should be viewed positively.

Apparently Hamilton felt so comfortable in the car and was so impressed with the speed and handling of the car that “the racing driver took over in Lewis in that test”.

This led to Hamilton pushing the car to the limit, and hitting the wall due to the high speed he was travelling at. Hamilton is already quick in the Ferrari and feels as comfortable as he did driving faster and earlier Mercedes models. Hamilton has not been happy with the direction Mercedes have been going in more recently.

Today 4th February, Hamilton drove a more recent Ferrari, last years F1 car the SF-24 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The session was for Pirelli’s development of their tyres for 2026.
